METAL ROOFING

METAL ROOFING

What is a Metal Roof Panel?

Metal roofing panels have been a workhorse in the construction industry since the turn of the century. Initially, small pieces of copper and zinc were hand formed by craftsmen. The slow and manual process created beautiful but often price-prohibitive roofs.

Over time, rolling manufacturing lines were introduced. This mechanization enabled a quicker and more efficient production and install process as roll-formed sheets routinely covered a 3′ wide section of the roof with one panel running from eave to ridge.

This advancement made metal roofing both durable and affordable. The only piece left of the puzzle was the appearance. In the early days, roll-formed panels had a simple rounded corrugation, and finish options were limited at best. But now the industry has changed! Today’s savvy consumers can choose from multiple profiles, paint systems, substrates, and extensive color selections. Thanks to these advances, metal roofing is one of the most cost-effective, beautiful, and environmentally friendly roofing choices available.

Alabama Metal Buildings & Components uses high-quality 26 & 29 gauge sheet metal with an 80,000 PSI tensile strength. With a class 4 impact rating to withstand the most severe weather, your steel structure will be tough enough to resist abuse yet not brittle like harder versions that are on the market. Economical 36″ coverage is cut to length and is available in 18 colors and galvalume.

Also, all AMBCi Steel Buildings have the option of a complete deluxe trim package to give your building a beautiful finished look.

Tuff Rib Roofing Panels

Tuff-Rib is our most affordable metal roofing system. A generous 36″ coverage and high production volumes combine to ensure that everyone can afford a quality steel roof system. An integrated anti-siphon groove on panel laps allows Tuff-Rib to be installed on roofs as low as 2.5:12. Strong 3/4″ trapezoidal ribs enable installation over solid deck and open frame applications. Tuff-Rib is at home on residential applications but functions well as a light commercial panel as well.

A high tensile steel core allows Tuff-Rib to easily handle the high winds throughout Alabama and Florida, even Miami-Dade Hurricane Zones.

PBR Roofing Panels

PBR and R-Panels are multi-use wall and roof panels used primarily in pre-engineered metal building applications. R-Panel is also a popular choice for residential metal roofing, especially in the Southeast. An optional purlin bearing leg (PBR) rests on purlins and provides support for fastening the panel lap. Fade and Chalk resistant Kynar 500 (PVDF) coatings are an AMBCi option for R-Panels and provide building owners with a long-term, high-performing panel that retains its original color and beauty year after year.

Standing Seam Metal Roof Panels (Concealed Fastener)

A standing seam roof system, also classified as concealed fastener panels, utilizes a series of adjoining panels that are connected by raised seams (or vertical legs). Seam heights vary, but are typically 1 to 2 1⁄2 inches tall and allow the panels to snap together without any exposed fasteners. In addition to providing a sleek, modern look, standing seam roofs allow panels to expand and contract with changing temperatures, helping them to last longer and cause less wear and tear on the roof deck. For residential applications, most standing seam panels snap together while others require mechanical seaming. Mechanical seamed panels provide greater strength and wind uplift capabilities.

Standing Seam Metal Roof Panel (Exposed Fastener)

The most economical form of metal roofing, exposed fastener roofing, consists of overlapping panels that are fastened directly to the roof deck or framing through the face of the metal. They are called “exposed” because the fastener head remains visible once installed. However, fastener heads are painted the same color as the roofing panels to help make them less apparent. Most exposed fastener panels are typically 36” wide, meaning that fewer panels (and less labor) will be needed to cover the roof area.

[HOVER TO LEARN MORE]
Our metal fabricators produce I-Beams in a variety of sizes and load capacities. Made from steel, the iconic shape that resembles a capital I, I-Beams can be used for support trusses, framework, and more.

End Column

[HOVER TO LEARN MORE]
Also known as end wall columns, end columns are a vertical member located at the end wall of a building that supports the girts.

Trusses

[HOVER TO LEARN MORE]
Alabama Metal Buildings & Components can manufacture trusses for your next building project. A truss is a structure made up of three or more members, with each member designed to carry a tension or compression force. Our manufacturing services include trusses built to your specifications and are built at our Montgomery facility with American steel.

Girts

[HOVER TO LEARN MORE]
Girts are horizontal structural members that are attached to sidewall or end wall columns to support paneling, can be custom designed and built via our metal fabrication processes.

Purlins

[HOVER TO LEARN MORE]
Purlins are horizontal structural members that support roof covering and carry loads to the primary framing members.

Tracks

[HOVER TO LEARN MORE]
These U-shaped channel runners are often used as top and bottom tracks to secure wall studs or end supports for floor joist framing. The Alabama Metal Buildings & Components metalworking team can fabricate steel tracks for your next building project.
